Our Body - Soul - Spirit
An old American Indian tale recounts the story of a chief who was telling a gathering of
young braves about the struggle within. "It is like two dogs fighting inside of
us," the chief told them. "There is one good dog who wants to do the right and
the other dog always wants to do the wrong. Sometimes the good dog seems stronger and is
winning the fight. But sometimes the bad dog is stronger and wrong is winning the
fight." "Who is going to win in the end?" a young brave asks.
The chief answered "The one you feed."
1 Thessalonians 5:23..may the god of peace sanctify you through and may your
spirit, soul and body be preserved and complete blameless at the coming of LJC
God,self and conscious.
Human beings are made in the image of God. Like God is tri-unity man is a shadow, a pattern of God. Human being is a tripart being, namely Body, Soul and Spirit.
Body is the material part of man that interacts with the physical world.
Soul is the self conscious or the seat of emotions, will and intellect.
Spirit is the part of the soul that relates to God (Psalm 51:10-11; Romans 8:16; Ephesians
4:23).
Three Phases of Salvation a believer in Jesus Christ experience.
A believer's spirit is saved at the point of faith in Jesus Christ.
His soul is saved during his lifetime on earth as he renews his mind to the word of God.
And his body is saved at the resurrection as he enters into the state of complete sanctification or
glorification. A believer today is saved spiritually, is being saved daily in his soul,
but some day in the future he will be saved physically (1 Cor. 15:20-26; 50-57).
3 fold effect of salvation
1. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as his personal Savior by faith, he is delivered from the guilt and
judgement of all past sins. The penalty of his sin is already paid and his acceptance in Jesus, he receives the salvation from death to life.Romans 8:1 states, now therefore there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.
2. When the believer meets Jesus face to face in death or rapture, he/she is delivered from the Presence of
sin.1 Corinthians 15:54,56,57 states, when the perishable has been clothend with imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." verse 56 says the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57) but thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Between these two events the positional sanctification and the ultimate sanctification the believer lives on the earth.
And the believer lives in the sin body and in this time the indwelling holy
spirit seeks to deliver him from the power of sin.
Experientially the believer is in combat and is in battle with sin every day. He lives in a body that is corruptible.
Through the living Word of God, the blood of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit he can over power sin in his life. omans 7:23-25..Pauls says, but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am ! Who will rescue me from the body of death? Thanks be to God -through Jesus Christ our Lord! And then he states in Galatians 5:16..live by the the Spirit so you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
What a provision we have in Christ Jesus. And now having set free from sin a believer has fruit unto holiness (Romans 6:22)
